Woodland Clean Up, Saturday October 27

The ‘Conservation Volunteers Terryland Forest Park’ is organising a clean up this Saturday (Oct 27) of the woodland and green areas behind the housing estates of Cluain Fada, Lus Leana, Suan and Sandyvale Lawn which form part of the Terryland Forest Park.

Local residents and all interested individuals are invited to meet at 11am Saturday at the Ballinfoile Community Organic Garden behind Lus Leana estate on the Headford Road to undertake a two hour clean up of the green zone stretching from Cluain Fada to Sandyvale Lawn that is part of the Terryland Forest Park.

Community involvement is crucial if parks, woodlands and seashores are to be reclaimed for the enjoyment of ordinary people and help end the ravages of anti-social behaviour such as refuse dumping that inflicts green areas across Ireland. Galway’s remaining forests, wetlands and meadows are a wonderful treasure chest of biodiversity that must be protected for future generations.

Galway city council have responded admirably to citizen’s lobbying on litter management through adoption of initiatives such as Glan Suas Gaillimh and the payback scheme for beverage cans. It is important that local residents and other concerned people should continue to be part of local community clean-ups that are playing a vital role in beautifying our city.
