Dr. Bryan McCabe Civil Engineering Phone: (091) 49 2021; Email: bryan.mccabe@nuigalway.ie ——— Bryan’s primary research interests lie in the area of geotechnical engineering and in particular piling, ground improvement and tunnelling. Within the area of Sustainability and the Built Environment, Bryan has been involved in a laboratory study looking at the use of recycled materials for the construction of stone columns, a form of ground improvement used to support foundations and slabs carrying low to moderate loads. He is currently supervising a research student who is appraising the embodied energies associated with various geotechnical options that might be considered for the construction of motorways over peat. Relevant to this appraisal is the emission of gases that may arise from the excavate-and-replace option preferred to date in Ireland for such projects. |
