Muigh-Inis is situated in the Connemara Gaeltacht where the Irish language is spoken daily. The area is steeped in ancient culture and tradition and is renowned for its traditional sean-nós singers and musicians. Among the other traditions still alive and well in this area is that of the skilled boat-makers. Muigh-Inis is also famous for its many secluded white sandy beaches and countless scenic walks.

St. Mac Dara’s Island
In the sixth century St. Mac Dara built a small church on one of the islands off the coast, namely ‘Cruach na Cara’. The Saint’s feast day is celebrated on 16th July when people make their way to the island for the celebration of Mass. The feast day also incorporates a festival of hooker and currach racing in honour of St. Mac Dara, the Patron Saint of all seafarers.
