The Carna Research Station is located on a Sentinel Site on West Coast with large land bank (c.7 hectares) with sea access and local pier. There are a team of scientific and technical staff based at the facility, and a variety of physical resources available on-site.

- Pump ashore station (40 l/sec) with water intake and effluent treatment units (filtration and UV),
- Marine Finfish Hatchery unit and allied services,
- Customised Recirculation Aquaculture System (RAS)
- Two dedicated, temp-controlled, experimental areas (c. 200 m3)
- Live Food Production systems – microalgae, rotifers and Artemia
- Fish Feed formulation/production equipment and production area,
- Five separate arrays of experimental tank systems (72 no tanks) allowing multi-replicate trials at varying sizes (0.5 to 2.5 m3) many with temperature control
- Molecular Laboratory – genetics and immunology
- Capacity to hold finfish, shellfish and algal species
