Secondary School Programme

Transition Year Programme

The Digital Hedge School (DHS) Project is a 10-week training programme for Transition Year students in the subject of Environmental Peer Education. Working with the non-profit education project Brigit’s Garden, the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI), and NUI Galway’s Education Department, we have been running the DHS Project since 2006, each year putting 10-14 local Transition Year students through the full 10-week programme. Research Institute Tours

Galway Region Outreach (GRO) is a partnership encompassing the Ryan Institute, Applied Optics Group, Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI), the Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI) and the National Centre fo Biomedical Engineering Science (NCBES). Together we offer full-day tours for second-level school groups through the facilities of our Research Institutes. Students are offered the unique experience of visiting some of NUI Galway’s Leading Research laboratories and meeting with the Scientists and Engineers behind the research.

School Visits

School visits including short lectures for second-level audiences are available. These are delivered on an ad-hoc basis, and the subject matter can be tailored to suit the needs of the audience and classroom. These visits are especially useful for teachers who are looking for an expert to address their classroom on Environmental, Marine and Energy current world news and events.
