Ryan Institute Research Day, June 9th
The Ryan Institute Annual Research Open Day was held on Thursday, 9 June, from 2-5.30pm.
Over 120 people attended the Ryan Institute Research Open Day on June 9th. The crowd was treated to eight talks by Ryan Institute researchers on subjects ranging from the impacts of forestry to the economics of marine energy. During the poster session the Orbsen Atrium was filled with people checking out the 80 posters on display.
Congratulations to Richard Manton who won the prize for the best oral presentation with his talk “Cycling Ireland to Work: Sustainable Job Creation through the Construction of a National Cycling Network”. Merry Zacharias and Anna Pielach, both of Botany and Plant Science, had the judges in a tizzy with their excellent posters, and ended up sharing the prize for best poster presentation. Well done to all involved on excellent contributions. You did yourselves and the Ryan Institute very proud!
Thank you also to Prof. Tasso Eleftheriou, former director of the Institute of Marine Biology of Crete, and Dr. John Steele, former director of Wood’s Hole Oceanographic Institution, for their visit and “Insights on the Future of Marine Research”.
