About Us

The Ryan Institute is the National University of Ireland, Galway’s hub for Environmental, Marine and Energy research activities.  There is a group of core development, administrative and technical staff to support Ryan Institute researchers.  This makes it a highly effective mechanism for encouraging collaboration, supporting multi-disciplinary research projects and inter-institutional funding applications, and assisting with promotion and outreach activities.

The Institute’s footprint is spread over two main buildings on the NUI Galway Campus – the Orbsen Building and the Martin Ryan Building – and four off-campus facilities – the Mace Head Atmospheric Research Station, the Carna Aquaculture Research Facility, the Carron Field Research Station, and Finavarra Field Research Station.  These facilities provide an essential platform for effective terrestrial, marine, and atmospheric studies.

The main activities of the Ryan Institute are described in these pages, and relate to Research, Facilities support, Education and Outreach, and Promotion and Communications.
